Renta fija vs. renta variable
Definition
The region's standard split for asset classes. Renta fija ("fixed income") covers deposits and bonds with a predetermined return schedule; renta variable ("variable/equity income") covers stocks and equity funds, where the return is not fixed and can be negative.
Why it matters
Almost every broker, fund fact sheet and regulator in Latin America uses this exact split — knowing it makes reading any local investment document far easier.
